This course provides learners with practical skills and up to date industry best practice approach, to manage and supervise Earthworks operations on site to ensure a quality product is delivered in an efficient way

WHO IS IT FOR?


ConstructTuition has developed this course to equip those with a supervisor role working in the construction industry with the knowledge and skills required to plan,manage,and inspect earthworks on their project.Roles attending include engineers, apprentices, forepersons, site managers, project managers,quality staff and HSQE professionals. It is also suitable for other personnel who have an overseeing role such as clerk of Works, Designer site representative, NEC supervisor or project manager. Upon successful completion of the course, learners will have the practical skills to make key decisions to improve the quality, efficiency, and the impact on the environment of Earthworks Operations On their project.


COURSE CONTENT


This is a 1 day course–9am-4pm course and covers the following topics.


Earthworks Theory

  • Site Investigation And reviewing borehole information informing temporary works.

  • EarthworksTesting–Grading analysis, Plate Load testing moisture content. Understanding these tests and reviewing the certificates.

  • Earthworks Specification–The standard Highways Work Series 600 and the site-specific specification.Understanding The testing requirements and other information detailed in these specifications.


Earthwork Compaction

  • Understanding What method compaction is, how to plan this activity, selecting compaction equipment and control methods,including monitoring,and recording the operation. 

  • Compaction testing–Which test to select, interpretation of the results and common issues.


Earthworks Productivity

  • Plan a major cut fill operation in teams to ensure the most efficient use of plant,material,and labour. Understand how to calculate volumes,placement rates, plant capacity, site restrictions, diesel consumption and carbon footprint to understand the optimum scenario.

  • The course contains group discussions and examples of real-life earthworks projects and documentation.
